Considering going private...

Have you ever considered taking your blog private? Why? Why did you not?

I am so hyper-sensitive these days about being on strike and feeling very little support from my more conservative friends that it is making me wonder. If I blog about the strike I will be judged by people who drop by my blog. If I don't blog about it I am hiding a major thing going on with me right now. After getting yelled at by a perfect stranger yesterday I am just not up for being judged.

The local news tips toward the district, some more heavily than others. It is frustrating that the situation is not being covered evenly. Here is the least scewed report I could find.

One of my friends just does private posts when she doesn't want to share something with strangers. If somebody wants to read it, they have to email her and then she will send them a password at her discretion. That way you can keep your blog open to masses but certain posts to people you want. Hugs. I hear you on the strike thing. As a former teacher I can't tell you what a hard time I have reading people's posts about how bad their son's teacher is (when they've only been in school a week) or how awful it is that school started early this year, how all we do it teach to the test and ask for money. *sigh* And we wonder why nobody wants to go into teaching.

It's a hard time to be out there with opinions when so many things are so polarized. I guess I've just decided to speak my mind, trying not to offend and to be tolerant of others, and let the chips fall where they may. If people don't like what I say, I'm hoping they will just not come back and read elsewhere.

I've thought occasionally about going private, especially when I've wanted to talk about family matters (not all bad stuff, just sensitive material sometimes). But then a new person will wander onto my blog (like you a while ago!), I'll visit their blog, and I think how unfortunate it would have been to miss that crossing of paths.

Yeah, the problem with the internet is, people are just so free to vent/criticise/condemn with no hesitation because it's so anonymous.

You can always put a note at the end of your post like "please don't leave hateful comments'

My sister always makes mean comments about things I do and then write about on my blog. I wish I could just make it so she can't access it anymore! I told her- hey, make your own blog with your own opinions! Our school district went on strike a few years ago. It was an ugly time...but it all worked out and no one even mentions it anymore. You will see the rainbow after the storm!
